Libertarian Party Presidental Debates
George Phillies is the best prepared so he would run the most consistent campaign. He has been working on this since 1996 so he has some understanding of how difficult the task is. Mary Ruwart is much stronger than she was the time before when she tossed her cap in the ring and also stronger than she was when I met her in Anaheim.. I would be inclined to support her now but she has too closely tied herself to Ron Paul... she will be mistaken for a conservative, no point in that there are already plenty of conservatives in libertarian clothing running around. Bob Barr was the author of the patriot act and several other keystones of the George Bush agenda so while he did join the LP two years ago and has been on the National Committee, I think he might still be a part of the movement to make the LP a Conservative alternative to the Republicans, not a good idea in my opinion, also his approach puts me off, he caters to the lets you and him fight populist conservative agenda of Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and other Mud Slingers.. The guy from California who has the cancer and other medical problems was also at Anaheim as a candidate. He is someone who deserves some support but not to my mind for president as he has been serverely damaged by the present system and that much anger and self pity will contaminate his campaign. Mike Gravel just came into to the race to promote his democracy projects... nice guy good record in the senate as he is the one who leaked the pentagon papers and took some other great stands for individual liberty and against the coercionists.. I am happy I got to vote for him in the Democratic Party primary, but he isn't serious about gaining the LP nomination. Wayne Root good entrepreneurial background but his appeal will be limited to those who understand him... he will turn many people off who don't understand the difference between state capitalism and entrepreneurial capitalism. But my big objection is the self righteousness, he sounds so much like the guy here in Utah who is at war with everyone because he got his employees so angry at him some of them launched a law suit that destroyed his company. Jingosian right decent approach sounds solid and realible.. If I were to vote it would likely be for George Philies, while he and I are not friends at least I know who he is and understand his dedication to his goal. His suggestion that science should be the basis for public policy descisions is right on target worth the effort it takes to promote it. |
